Grafis Nusantara Vol. 04 book cover (Grafis Nusantara, Grammars, 2025)
Grafis Nusantara is back with a brand new release! This time, we’re peeling back the layers of a long-overlooked yet wildly influential visual phenomenon that has shaped much of our archive collection. Grafis Nusantara Vol. 4 – Koleksi Stiker Pop & Trendi dives into the eclectic world of Indonesian pop culture stickers from the 1970s to the 1990s. It’s a journey into the sticky, the kitschy, and the profoundly expressive mediums that are woven into everyone’s everyday life.
This fourth instalment in the Grafis Nusantara book series brings together a vibrant assortment of sticker graphics that once adorned public transport, notebooks, bedroom doors, and every surface in between across the archipelago. Drawn from deep archival digging, the book repositions these sticky visuals not merely as ephemera, but as cultural artefacts—fragments of humour, dissent, belief, identity, and mass communication.

At the heart of this book is our journey to Pakisaji, Malang, where we encountered AMP Malang, one of the most thriving sticker makers from the golden age of Indonesian sticker culture. Through interviews with Kusnadi and Eko Pujianto, the father-son duo behind AMP Malang, we unearthed stories behind the production, circulation, and enduring popularity of these mass-produced icons. You can read some bits of the interview in our journal post here.
The book features sticker designs organised by particular themes: pin-up girls, inspirational and humorous quotes, cartoon mashups, religious phrases, local myths, brands, and more. Each category is accompanied by an explanation that contextualises the visual language and culture of the era.

There’s also a collaborative set of stickers, co-designed by Grafis Nusantara and AMP Malang, uniting two creative forces into one playful set. And the icing on the cake? The cover is interactive—yes, you can stick something to it too.

Book Launch & Showcase
Vol. 4 launched on Saturday, 22 February 2025, at Grammars, a cosy and welcoming creative haven nestled in the heart of bustling Cihapit, Bandung. The space was transformed into a vibrant playground of stickers, drawing in a lively crowd of graphic designers, collectors, and devoted enthusiasts of all things vintage. Doors opened at midday, giving guests the chance to wander through the space and get a first glimpse of the book.
By 5pm, the space was packed for a live presentation and talk session hosted by Ardos of Grammars. Together with Copyright/Reserved, we shared insights into the making of the book, the process of interviewing AMP Malang, and our reflections on the project.

The launch also marked the opening of a month-long sticker exhibition (22 February–22 March 2025), showcasing original prints and archival materials from the project. Visitors were encouraged not just to glance, but to engage—leafing through our books, unwrapping samples, and inventing their own sticker stories along the way. An ever-expanding sticker wall is also provided, inviting visitors to bring their own sticker contributions and leave their mark.
To make the experience even sweeter, a limited collaborative merch drop between Grammars and Grafis Nusantara was released especially for the occasion.

Through Vol. 4, Grafis Nusantara continues its endeavour to spotlight Indonesian visual culture—particularly the forms that have long existed on its margins. By focusing on commercially produced stickers, the book reveals how design operates within everyday life, shaping memory and meaning across generations. Whether you’re a designer, a retro ’90s kid, or someone who once covered your bedroom mirror in holographic stickers, this book is sure to strike a chord. It’s a love letter to a culture that’s been with us all along.
